U-S Secretary of State Marco Rubio is suggesting the United States won’t govern Venezuela other than enforcing an existing “oil quarantine” on the country.
That’s even as President Donald Trump again insisted Sunday night that the U-S would be running Venezuela following its weekend ouster of President Nicolas Maduro.
Rubio’s statements seemed designed to temper concerns about whether the American action to achieve regime change in the oil-rich nation might lead to another prolonged foreign intervention.
Meanwhile, interim Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodriguez invited Trump “to collaborate” and said she’s seeking “respectful relations.”
On New Year’s Eve, RCMP responded to a report that a pickup truck was travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 when the driver lost control and the truck flipped. When officers arrived on scene, they determined that the driver, a 43-year-old man from Antigonish County, was showing signs of impairment. The man failed a test with a roadside screening device and later provided breath samples that showed him to be over the legal limit. He is facing impaired driving charges and is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court in March. No one was injured in the crash.
