Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Level Wind warning for Pictou and Antigonish Counties. We can expect westerly wind gusts of up to 90 km/h from this morning until early this evening. That could result in some power outages.
Pictou County District RCMP is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing person – 79-year-old Bernard “Bernie” Wilfred Purvis, who was last seen on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. in Durham. Purvis is described as 5-foot-8, 200 pounds, with grey hair and blue eyes. He may be wearing black jeans and ankle-length winter boots, and he is driving a white Volkswagen Tiguan with Nova Scotia licence plate FZW676. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bernard “Bernie” Wilfred Purvis is asked to contact Pictou County District RCMP or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
New Glasgow Regional Police have charged a Pictou County man with impaired driving following a routine patrol. Last Tuesday afternoon, an officer spotted an SUV being driven on High Street in Trenton and conducted a stop. The 27-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges of impaired driving; refusal to provide a breath sample, and breach of probation. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on Tuesday.
A new poll suggests Nova Scotia’s governing Progressive Conservatives were holding a steady lead over their opposition rivals more than a year after the party won an overwhelming election victory. Toronto-based Liaison Strategies says a recent survey of eight-hundred Nova Scotia voters found the Tories held a 19-point lead over the Opposition New Democrats, led by Claudia Chender. Among decided and leaning voters, Premier Tim Houston’s Progressive Conservatives attracted 50 per cent support, followed by the N-D-P with 31 per cent and the Liberals under interim leader Iain Rankin at 18 per cent.
