A devastating fire Wednesday afternoon in downtown New Glasgow. Three adjoining buildings that housed businesses and apartments were destroyed in a blaze that broke out shortly before 3:00pm on the upper portion of Provost Street. The call came in to the New Glasgow Fire Department as a fire in the wall, and it quickly spread to the adjacent buildings. Assistance was provided by the Stellarton, Trenton and Plymouth Fire Departments, along with coverage provided by the Linacy and Little Harbour fire departments. New Glasgow Regional Police did have to close off Provost Street from Maclean to Jury Street to allow firefighters and first responders to do their work. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
