New Glasgow Police have arrested a youth following an incident Saturday night involving a replica firearm at a business on George Street in New Glasgow. Police were told that a male youth had shown staff what appeared to be a handgun. On Sunday afternoon, officers on patrol located the suspect at a restaurant on East River Road and placed him under arrest. Police seized a replica handgun that investigators describe as a BB Gun. He’s been charged with two counts of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public, and also Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

New Glasgow Police say that an individual reported missing on Friday has been located safe. Police thank the public for assisting through social media shares and tips.
More than two-thousand workers from 22 care homes in Nova Scotia are to strike today after contract negotiations reached an impasse. The Canadian Union of Public Employees submitted to the employer a notice to begin striking this morning at 7 a-m.
A spokesperson for the union says the long-term care workers feel they have been pushed to this job action as they fight for a living wage.
The minister of long-term care says the strike will cause challenges, but all impacted facilities have agreements in place to ensure essential care continues.
The Interrupter Clause was invoked over the weekend as gas and diesel prices went down on Saturday morning. The price of regular gasoline decreased by 6.7 cents per litre, leaving the pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.79 per litre in the local area. The price of diesel decreased by 14.5 cents per litre, putting the pump price for self-serve diesel at $2.24 per litre locally.
Candidates running in a trio of federal byelections have finished up their campaign-trail stumping and will wait to see what voters choose at the ballot box today. After winning the suburban Montreal riding of Terrebonne by just one vote last year — and later seeing the result nullified by the courts — the Liberals have been working hard to keep the seat from the Bloc Québécois. The Liberals are widely expected to retain two Toronto ridings. Prime Minister Mark Carney is already on track to secure a majority government thanks to five recent floor crossings by opposition M-Ps.
