New Glasgow Police, New Glasgow Fire Department and Emergency Health Services all responded to a two-vehicle-collision shortly before 2:30pm on Tuesday at the intersection of Abercrombie Road and Elm Street in New Glasgow. Police say there were no life-threatening injuries reported, but both vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene. Abercrombie Road was closed in both directions for over an hour. New Glasgow Police continue to investigate.

Amherst Police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of one man. Investigators say those responsible remain at large, but they say police have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public. The shooting was reported just before 7 p-m on Monday night after residents told police they heard a loud bang from Prince Arthur Street. A wounded man, found lying on the ground, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The federal government has announced a plan to suspend the excise tax on fuel starting Monday, through to Labour Day as the war in Iran sends gas prices soaring. Prime Minister Mark Carney says the pause will save 10 cents per litre of gas and four cents on a litre of diesel. Conservatives had called for more sweeping action on federal fuel taxes but Carney says this was the most responsible decision the government could take as the Iran war drives up energy prices
The federal Liberals will table their spring economic update on April 28th, giving Canadians a look at how any new shocks, such as the war in Iran, may have affected the government’s fiscal position.
Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne announced the update during question period in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
The update is expected to flesh out earlier spending promises, including a boost to the G-S-T benefit, and a new plan announced Tuesday to waive the federal fuel excise tax until Labour Day.
