Pictou County District RCMP are turning to the public for help in identifying a person of interest following a suspicious incident that occurred in Pictou.
On Wednesday night, RCMP were informed of a suspicious person who had been on School St. earlier in the day. Investigators learned that at 4:30 p.m., two children were approached by a man in a vehicle. The man told the children that their grandmother had sent him to pick them up and then offered them chocolate. When the children declined, the man drove off, travelling toward Faulkland St. The man is described as white, in his 40s, with black and grey hair. He had a black-ink tattoo on his left arm and was driving a black truck.
Anyone with information about this incident, or who may have security camera footage of the area, is asked to contact the Pictou County District RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
New Glasgow Police are looking for information on the whereabouts of 37-year old Jonathon Edward Lennerton, who’s currently wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant. Lennerton is facing charges of Assault With A Weapon; Pointing A Firearm; and Uttering Threats. He is described as 5-foot-7,185 pounds, with light brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information on the location of Jonathon Edward Lennerton is asked to call New Glasgow Police or Crime Stoppers.
New Glasgow Police is asking for the public’s help in its investigation into an arson at the Pioneer Trail Foot Bridge in New Glasgow Police responded to a report of a fire alarm at the Pioneer Trail Foot Bridge at about 1:30am on Wednesday. The preliminary investigation has determined that the fire had been deliberately set, and it’s believed to have occurred between Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 1:30 a.m.
The fire caused extensive damage to the walking surface of the bridge, resulting in the closure of the bridge to pedestrian traffic.
A decrease overnight in diesel prices in Nova Scotia, but it is status quo for gas prices. The price of diesel decreased by 2.5 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for self-serve diesel at $2.14 per litre in the local area. With no change in gas prices, regular self-serve gasoline still costs you $1.92 per litre locally.
Long term care workers represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees and government representatives agreed to return to the bargaining table Thursday afternoon, following 4 weeks of strike. CUPE and the government reached an impasse on March 24, and CUPE members have been on strike since April 13. Among those on strike are workers at Shiretown and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Homes in Trenton, Maritime Odd Fellows in New Glasgow, and Valley View Manor in New Glasgow
