A man from Annapolis County has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of a Pictou County man. 61-year old Steven Boudreau was reported missing from Hopewell on April 19th. Investigators determined that the circumstances in Boudreau’s disappearance were suspicious, and the RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit took the lead in the investigation. The RCMP says investigators gathered information and evidence that ultimately led to the successful recovery of Boudreau’s remains. A 29-year-old man from Torbrook was arrested Wednesday at a home in Torbrook and is to appear in Kentville provincial court on June 16th to face a first-degree murder charge.

The RCMP says that the woman reported missing, last seen on Wednesday at 11 p.m. in Salt Springs, has been safely located.

Gas prices went down overnight in Nova Scotia, while diesel prices went up. The price of regular gasoline went down by 3.4 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline $1.93 per litre in the local area. The price of diesel rose by 2.0 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for self-serve diesel at $2.19 per litre locally.
El Niño is expected to lessen the number of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic this year.
The Canadian Hurricane Centre is predicting a slightly below-average hurricane season because of the disruptive climate pattern.
However, Environment Canada meteorologist Bob Robichaud stresses Canadians should always prepare for damaging weather, noting one or two named storms typically impact the country each year.
He cited Gustav in Cape Breton in 2002 as an example of a hurricane that made landfall during an El Niño year.
The 38th East Coast Music Awards Gala was held last night in Sydney, Cape Breton. The Entertainer of the Year — Fans’ Choice Award was presented to Andree Pettipas of Nova Scotia.
