Pictou West MLA Marco MacLeod is the Province’s new Energy Minister. Premier Tim Houston gave up the province’s energy portfolio amid a cabinet shuffle announced Wednesday. Macleod, who had been serving as ministerial assistant, assumes the portfolio. The premier appointed himself as energy minister in the fall of 2025. At the time, he said he took on the role to emphasize the importance of the energy file.
The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit has charged a man with murder in relation to a suspicious death in January 2025. As a result of a wellbeing check at a home in Bible Hill on January 3, 2025, a 42-year old woman was found deceased. Officers also found an unconscious 49-year old Bible Hill man in the home and he was taken to hospital. On Tuesday, after an extensive investigation, the man was arrested and he is charged with Second Degree Murder.
Contract talks aimed at ending a six-week strike by 35-hundred long-term-care workers in Nova Scotia resumed Wednesday afternoon, but have broken off again according to the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The union is looking to secure wage increases for workers it says are not earning a living wage. The government says it has offered wage increases between 12 and 24 per cent over four years, retroactive pay to 2023 and increased evening and weekend premiums, as well as other improvements.
An ambitious plan to build a stadium and entertainment hub near Halifax appears to be on shaky ground.
One of the local people involved in initial discussions about the venture says talks last year with U.S.-based Ridgehaven Holdings fell apart when it became clear the bid lacked key elements.
Jason Brunt, president of Halifax-based Clayton Developments, says the proposal didn’t have a business plan, feasibility study, financial analysis or proof of capital.
