The 46-year-old man who was reported missing from the East River Road area of New Glasgow has been safely located.

The Mooseland Road wildfire in Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore is now considered under control after burning for two weeks. The Department of Natural Resources says the fire is responding well to suppression efforts and is not expected to grow, but it has not been fully extinguished. The wildfire, first detected July 15th near Jacket Lake, grew to about 1,447 hectares and forced evacuations for more than 100 homes, cottages and cabins.

Nova Scotia is changing the way it funds RCMP services across the province. Starting in October, the province will move away from billing municipalities based on the number of officers assigned to their communities and use a new formula based on factors like crime rates, population and geography. The province says most municipalities will save money under the new system and none will pay more. It’s also investing $16 million to hire 25 new RCMP officers who can be deployed where they’re needed most.

Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island will soon have a new area code. The CRTC has approved the introduction of area code 851, which will take effect on May 27th, 2028. The new code is being added as the existing 902 and 782 area codes are expected to run out of available phone numbers by 2029. Officials say the early rollout will give phone providers and customers time to prepare.

DeCoste Performing Arts Centre Executive Director Troy Greencorn and wife Jennie Greencorn have been honoured by the Canadian Folk Music Awards Association. The pair was inducted into the Canadian Order of Folk during the 30th annual Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso. The award recognizes their longstanding contributions to Canada’s folk music community through their work with the deCoste Performing Arts Centre.
