Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for Pictou County as heavy rain is expected from this morning through Monday morning. The agency says areas could see as much as 70 to 120 mm of rain through that period of time. Rainfall rates of 10 mm per hour may occur over some locations, and thunderstorms may develop, producing heavier rainfall in areas.

There was an increase in gasoline prices overnight in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline increased by 4.0 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.93 per litre in the local area. There’s no change in diesel prices.

Canada’s financial intelligence agency has fined the Crown corporations overseeing casinos in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Fintrac imposed penalties of nearly 400-thousand dollars in New Brunswick and almost 232-thousand in Nova Scotia. Both organizations are accused of failing to report transactions suspected of involving money laundering or terrorist financing. Nova Scotia Gaming was also cited for outdated compliance policies and inadequate documentation of financial crime risks.

Pictou’s Fitness Trails and woodlands, hit hard by Hurricane Fiona will now be replanted with thousands of native trees and shrubs through the Thriving Forests Program. That’s a provincial tree-planting and ecosystem restoration initiative led by the Clean Foundation in partnership with the provincial and federal governments. Trees planted under this program help restore forest health and biodiversity, specifically in areas that will not be used for commercial forestry. Workers will be in the area of the Fitness Trails and Glen Road East this weekend planting the seedlings. The Fitness Trails area will not be closed to public use as the project requires minimal equipment.
