The winds of change have blown hard in the U-S midterm elections.
Democrats have won control of both the House and the Senate in a widespread repudiation of President Donald Trump and the Republican party that reached deep into some of the nation’s most conservative states.
At least seven Senate seats and two-dozen in the House have flipped toward Democrats. It’s the first time in decades that Democratic senators have been elected in Texas, Kansas, South Carolina and Maine.
Democrats also flipped Senate seats in Iowa, North Carolina and Ohio.
The interrupter was invoked overnight for a significant change in diesel prices in Nova Scotia. The price of diesel decreased by 13-cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for self-serve diesel at $2.54 per litre in the local area. There’s no change in the price of gasoline.
The Nova Scotia government says it has dramatically reduced the number of homeless families staying in government-funded hotel rooms.
Social Development Minister Susan Corkum-Greek says 19 families are currently staying in hotel rooms, down from 81 in August 2025.
The minister says the government has worked hard to help people move beyond emergency accommodations and into stable housing through a range of investments. There are more than 12-hundred supportive housing units across the province, and the province has set a goal of having almost 16-hundred by March 2028.
